Developed by a tribal community in Africa called “Yabassi” is a dance form known as Ambasse Bey. This “tribal” dance is said to have originated from Cameroon, and gained popularity specifically in the city of Douala only after the completion of World War II. Furthermore, this dance mainly involves the use of guitar and percussion instruments such as sticks and bottles. In addition, this dance is also renowned for the quick footwork involved.
a. History/origin of the Ambasse Bey Dance:
This dance style was first created by a tribal community in Cameroon known as “Yabassi” on completion of World War II. In addition, this style dance evolved further during the 1950’s and 1960’s in the Littoral Region in the country. However, it was Eboa Lottin in the mid 1960’s who created a new form of Ambasse Bey that involved the use of a harmonica in addition to the guitar and other percussion aides.

There is no particular costume used in this dance.
c. Music involved in the Ambasse Bey Dance:
The major instruments involved in this dance include the guitar and percussion instruments similar to drums made from sticks and bottles.
d. Training availability and technique involved in the Ambasse Bey Dance:
In terms of technique, this dance essentially involves performers using quick feet movements and agility. As for training centres/schools, there are none available around the world since this dance form is performed mainly by a tribal community called “Yabassi” in Cameroon.
