Join choreographer and filmmaker Anabella Lenzu for a special in-person event on Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30pm (EDT) at Carroll Hall (2 Vandervoort Place, Brooklyn, NY 11237). This event showcases four award-winning short dance films and offers an intimate conversation with Anabella Lenzu herself.

Delving into the complexities of balancing life as a parent and an art-maker, the event explores what defines a good mother and a good artist. Through the lens of Anabella Lenzu’s personal experiences as a woman, mother, and immigrant living in New York, these dance films provide a profound reflection on her motivations as an artist.

Anabella Lenzu’s impressive artistic career includes 390 performances, the creation of 14 choreographic works at 100 venues, and the production of 9 dance films presented in over 200 festivals worldwide since 2006.

Attendance for the event is free, but RSVP is required. Please click here to RSVP and secure your spot.

In addition, you have the opportunity to join Anabella for a two-day online workshop on June 3rd and 4th, from 11 am to 2 pm (ET). Led by choreographer Anabella Lenzu and photographer/filmmaker Todd Carroll, this workshop aims to deepen your understanding of choreographing for the camera and the art of capturing dance on screen.

Throughout the workshop, participants will explore the transformation of choreographic material from 3D to 2D, examining the role of performance and movement in filmmaking. Engaging in exercises, discussions, and creative work, you will have the chance to embrace risks and explore the possibilities and limitations of dance on screen.

The workshop will address fundamental questions such as: What is choreography? How do we interpret dance in the modern context? And what does performance mean to you?

In addition to the scheduled class time, all participants will have the opportunity for a private one-on-one 30-minute consultation. Upon completion of the mentorship program, you will receive a certificate of completion upon request.

The registration deadline for the workshop is May 31st, 2023. To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in participating to [email protected]
