The Foxtrot is a romantic and elegant dance. It is danced in a closed dance position and consists of four basic steps: the slow walk, the quick walk, the chasse, and the run. The slow walk is taken on four counts, with the man stepping forward on the first two counts and the woman stepping back on the last two counts. The quick walk is taken on two counts, with the man and woman stepping together on the first and apart on the second count. The chasse is taken on six counts, with the man and woman alternating, stepping forward and to the side. The run is taken on four counts, with the man and woman stepping together on the first two counts and apart on the last two counts.

The Foxtrot was created in 1914 by vaudeville actor Harry Fox. The dance was originally called the “Foxtrot” and was a fast-paced dance performed to ragtime music.
