Ballet Arizona bids farewell to Ib Andersen after 24 years of artistic brilliance, announces exciting new season with world premiere by Andersen

Ballet Arizona’s Artistic Director, Ib Andersen, will be leaving the organization after serving for 24 years, according to a recent announcement by the Ballet Arizona Board of Directors. A search firm has been retained to find a replacement for him.

Andersen started his career in dance at the Royal Danish Ballet School in Copenhagen, Denmark, at the age of seven. He later became the youngest Principal Dancer in the Royal Danish Corps de Ballet’s history at the age of 20. He joined the New York City Ballet in 1980, where he learned 39 ballets in three months and appeared in 60 ballets during his ten-year tenure.

The Ballet Arizona Board of Directors expressed its gratitude to Andersen for his contributions to the organization over the past 23 years. Jami Kozemczak, Executive Director of Ballet Arizona, emphasized the importance of celebrating Andersen’s achievements while planning for continued success in the future.

Ballet Arizona has hired a national search firm to find a replacement for Andersen, who will continue to lead the company as Artistic Director during the coming season and help with the transition to a new Artistic Director.
