Queens Rising, a highly successful event launched last summer, is set to return in June 2023 with even more exciting offerings. This month-long, multi-disciplinary arts celebration aims to showcase the vibrant culture and creative diversity of Queens. Collaborating with over 100 presenting organizations, Queens Rising will present over 300 events, including performances, exhibitions, and cultural experiences that highlight the artistic and cultural communities of the borough.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “There’s no place like Queens when it comes to arts and culture. I’m thrilled that Queens Rising is returning for its second year, providing an opportunity for us to showcase the richness and diversity of our cultural experiences to visitors. Come and enjoy the multitude of exciting activities we have planned, bring your friends and family, and have a vibrant summer in The World’s Borough!”

Jeff Rosenstock, AVP for Governmental Relations and External Affairs at Queens College, emphasized the collaborative spirit of the Queens cultural community and the significance of the second annual Queens Rising initiative. He noted the collective effort of cultural partners to not only promote their own organizations but also ensure that residents of Queens and the greater metro area are aware of the borough’s rich cultural landscape.

Queens Rising originated from a meeting of the Arts Advisory Board at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts. Representatives from various arts and culture organizations in Queens formed a Planning Committee, inviting the wider artistic and cultural communities to join Working Groups focused on programming, operations, marketing, and fundraising to contribute to the success of Queens Rising.

The initiative aims to highlight and promote the talented individuals who contribute to the vibrant culture and essence of Queens neighborhoods. Participating presenting organizations will showcase a wide range of traditions and cultural expressions that reflect the diversity of Queens, making it one of the most multicultural regions in the world. While the core programming will take place in Queens, the celebration will extend throughout New York City, with arts and cultural institutions in other boroughs featuring Queens-based artists and organizations.

Queens Rising has garnered the support and collaboration of various esteemed organizations, including Aimi Cultural Center, Astoria Park Alliance, Center for the Women of New York, Dance Entropy/Green Space, Dancing Classrooms, Fitzgerald Art, Indo-American Arts and Cultural, Kupferberg Center for the Arts, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, MoMA PS1, Queens Theatre, Queensboro Dance Festival, School of Rock, Wild Heart Performing Arts Studio, and many others.
