Celebrating 20 Years with a Stravinsky Tribute

Join the world premiere of two extraordinary works that reimagine classic Stravinsky ballets. Resident Choreographer Ihsan Rustem (sponsored by Martin Christoph Müller) presents his bold interpretation of The Rite of Spring, while Associate Choreographer Joseph Hernandez (sponsored by Ronni Lacroute) mesmerizes with his version of Petrushka.

The Rite of Spring, renowned for its scandalous premiere over a century ago, continues to captivate audiences with its daring and provocative nature. Rustem explores Stravinsky’s iconic masterpiece through the eyes of The Chosen One—a fiercely rebellious soul determined to shape their own destiny. Prepare to be amazed by Rustem’s unexpected vision and the mesmerizing performance of nine talented dancers, including NW Dance Project alum Anthony Pucci.

Petrushka: A Contemporary Fantasia on Classical Themes is an enchanting dance piece featuring eight extraordinary performers, complemented by Igor Stravinsky’s remarkable music. Embracing the spirit of epic theater from 1920s Germany, this rendition of Petrushka challenges tradition with a delicate blend of criticism and adoration. Hernandez and the NW Dance Project collaborators delve into the complexities of separating cherished artworks from their problematic aspects, posing thought-provoking questions about the essence of art. As devoted advocates of beauty and connection, they strive to uncover the realm of humanity and empathy hidden beneath layers of history, politics, and power.

Please be aware that this production incorporates spoken text, touches upon sensitive topics including suicide, includes simulated blood, and features a dancing bear.
